FAQs
What is your process for working with artists?
Breakwhite offers comprehensive mentorship, consulting, management, design, and research solutions. Every artist and every process is unique.
Reach out for a free 15 minute discovery call to discuss how we might work together. Current rates are $60/hour for mentorship and $100/hour for artist project management, which often can be built into your overall project budget. My mission is to help you find creative solutions – reach out for a custom proposal for a specific project.
Or, to keep in touch, add your info to Breakwhite’s artist database and I’ll let you know when I have a project that might be a fit!
Who is behind Breakwhite?
Breakwhite was founded by Sara Everett after 13 years working as an arts project manager and curatorial consultant. Named after the philosophy that an artist starts any new endeavor by “breaking the white”, Sara encourages creative play even in public art.
In addition to Breakwhite, Sara is also a fine artist. Her work has been shown in Seattle, New York and internationally in Ireland, Finland and Monaco. She has been an awardee of the Vermont Studio Center Artist Fellowship, a printmaking residency in Ireland and recently embarked on a residency to Vancouver Island, B.C. to make cyanotypes of rain.
She also serves on the Board of Directors of Seattle’s Uptown Arts District.
I’d like to meet for a coffee/drink/walk in the park, how can I do that?
As much as I’d love to support everyone who asks, I’m just one me. There’s such a wealth of great information out there though – here’s some favs:
Artist Trust Resources for artists AND Opportunities
4Culture Resource Library
Seattle Public Library – tons of great business and research tools – you can even make a free appointment to meet with a research librarian for your project.
WA Lawyers for the Arts – invaluable for contract questions
For those interested in how to find success in public art, I partnered on a course with Jodie Nelson of the Female Frequency podcast. Jodie has been a gallery director and worked with Dale Chihuly for years. Together, we know a thing or two. Check out our online course here – Artists Guide to Public Art: From Proposal to Contract
