Storefronts UN[contained]

Storefronts UN[contained] was a temporary artist residency program
set up on a vacant lot across from the Seattle Center.

The project with barrientosRyan was in partnership with the Uptown Art & Cultural CoalitionShunpike and CoCA, and supported twelve
socially engaged artists from a variety of disciplines with residencies that explored themes of racial equity and social
justice.

There were several community events across the duration of four months where the public could engage with the
artists during open studios, talks and performances.

Everett instigated the program, managed the permit process and brought the programming partners together.

Everett built the permit application plan set by creating the container layout and assembled the 3D models and technical drawings of the shipping containers.

Artists have a tremendous role today in dismantling social structure that perpetuate oppression,” said Andrea Lim, residency manager for Storefronts [UN]Contained, which also provides financial support to the artists. “Our objective is that the art produced by our artists in residence will move conscious bystanders toward taking tangible action for social causes.” – Puget Sound Business Journal, 2017
